COVID-19 and Global Beverage Markets: Implications for Wine

Abstract This article provides an empirical case study of the impacts COVID-19 pandemic on global beverage markets, particularly wine sector. Both international trade and domestic sales have been adversely affected by temporary shifts away from on-premise social distancing measures self-isolation that led to closure restaurants, bars, clubs, plus declines in travel tourism. Partly offsetting this has a boost off-premise direct e-commerce sales. We first estimate those 2020 their expected partial recovery 2021 using new model markets. Further recent disruption imposition China late prohibitive tariffs its imports bottled Australia. Its diversionary trade-reducing effects are compared with due COVID-19.
